SGAC is proud to announce the success of the SGAC IYA 2009 Essay Competition, which collected several essays from all around the planet. Among some very excellent enteries, the enthusiasm of the authors and their reflections on how astronomy enhances civil society in different parts of the world were greatly appreciated by the selection committee and did not make their task of evaluation easier.
