Sir Arthur C. Clarke's 90th Birthday Celebrations

Our country's most famous guest resident, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday.

The official ceremony was held at 5 p.m. last evening at the Central Bank Auditorium in Colombo amid a gathering of distinguished guests, including many from the space, science and technology fields. Some of the guests included His Excellency Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Former Russian Astronaut and the first man to walk in space outside a spacecraft in 1965, Dr. Alexey Leonov, NASA’s Solar System Exploration member Dr. Michael Zolenesky, former Chairman Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Prof. U.R. Rao and the Principal Engineer of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Dr. Sarath Gunapala.
