Alexandra Ruths, SGAC NPoC for Austria has been identified as such individual. She graduated in May from Webster University. Her study background is in the field of Media Communications and Management. She first got involved with Space in June 2007 when she was approached by one of the founders of the SEDS chapter in Vienna (the first one in Austria) and asked whether she would like to be responsible for the Public Relations and Communications-Marketing work in the Marketing and Management team of the SEDSAT II international student project- run under the umbrella of SEDS. Through this project she got the opportunity to travel to India and attend the International Astronautical Conference (IAC) in Hyderabad. She has continued to be involved in this project and her work there has lead her to Space Generation. She was given a great opportunity by SGAC to present the SEDSAT II project at Scientific and the Technical Subcommittee of the UN COPUOS in February, 2008. Since then she has been involved with Space Generation and has been appointed as the 2nd NPoC for Austria. In addition, Alexandra serves as the Director for Media Relations for the World Space Week.
The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was set up by the General Assembly in 1959 ( resolution 1472 (XIV)) to review the scope of international cooperation in peaceful uses of outer space, to devise programmes in this field to be undertaken under United Nations auspices, to encourage continued research and the dissemination of information on outer space matters, and to study legal problems arising from the exploration of outer space.

The Committee has two standing Subcommittees of the whole:
the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee; and the Legal Subcommittee.
The Committee and its two Subcommittees meet annually to consider questions put before them by the General Assembly, reports submitted to them and issues raised by the Member States. The Committee and the Subcommittees, working on the basis of consensus, make recommendations to the General Assembly. Detailed information on the work of the Committee and the Subcommittees are contained in their annual reports.
SGAC has a Permanent Observer Status with the UN COPUOS and has been very active in its Working Groups, Subcommittees and its main Committee.
