Become a National Point of Contact
“I’m interested in becoming an NPoC - what are you looking for and how do I apply?”
The SGAC is looking for active young persons interested in space who would like to become NPoC in their country.
Who are National Points of Contacts?
NPoCs are volunteers that are interested to be the contact point for SGAC in a country.
In several cases, we have found that it is highly beneficial for us to have up to two National Points of Contact for a country - especially if candidates for NPoCs are new to the organization. In this case, we expect the appointed 'Co-NPoCs' to work together.
According to our official by-laws:
• NPoCs, RCs and Executive Committee Chairpersons shall be citizens of a United Nations member State, be preferably between 18 and 35 years old at the date of appointment or election (though exceptional circumstances may be taken into consideration), demonstrate leadership and teamwork experience; possess good communication skills in English and preferably in other United Nations official languages; have a good understanding of space and cultural issues; have knowledge of the United Nations (UN) organisation and its objectives; have knowledge of the UN COPUOS and its objectives; have preferably hands-on experience in youth projects and space-related projects.
• National Points of Contact are appointed by the Executive Council. Persons interested in being the National Point of Contact for a State should submit a resume to the SGAC Executive Officer in Vienna. The Executive Officer will make the resume available to the Executive Council members. Upon review of the candidate, the Executive Officer will make a recommendation of appointment or no appointment to the Executive Council who will then vote on it at their next regular bi-weekly meeting.
• National Point of Contacts shall serve for a period of two years, and may serve a second consecutive term if appointed by the Executive council. National Point of Contacts may serve a maximum of 2 terms.
• National Point of Contacts should normally be resident in the country that they represent.
What do we expect from National Points of Contacts?
The SGAC encourages NPoCs to take personal initiatives with their roles to spread the enthusiasm for peaceful space exploration around their own country! However, this role is an important responsibility, and there are a number of expectations that the organisation has of you.
• It is the first duty of a NPoC to act as a communication channel between national student youth/space networks and the SGAC.
• Keep regular contact and feedback with your Regional Coordinator.
• Regularly update your SGAC country homepage.
• Submit quarterly reports
Basically, spread the word about SGAC and get into helping space education and outreach in the name of the SGAC in your country and keep everyone else at SGAC informed about it!
More information can be found in our statues and bylaws.
What incentives can you expect as a National Points of Contact?
• meet and work with like-minded people all over the world
• participate in space projects and space events
• bring the voice of the youth of your country to the UN
• change your country, your region, and the world
Send your application (letter of intent + CV) to our Executive Officer, Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, at officer@spacegeneration.org . Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to email her as well.
