Project ideas
It does not seem as if anyone has posted anything on here so I suppose I'll start. Does anyone on here have any major projects which need to be started or looked into? i personally would like to have more research done into the means of travel itself, information I do not see a lot of on this site. What kind of ships will be needed? what kind of materials? how large? how many people are we looking to hold and for how long? if we can set those perameters than designing the ship is not nearly as hard as it sounds. If you reach to contact me send an email to jordanbrandes@yahoo.com
I look forward to hearing from you and I hope to help as much as I can with this and any future projects.
Sincerly,
Jordan
Hi Jordan,
Researching space craft design sounds like an interesting project, and if we find enough interest in it, it is something we could do.
Some of our other projects include the 50-year visions for space, and input to UN COPUOS. You might like to check out these projects and see if they need a hand.
Check out my welcome post in the general section for more information about the function of this team.
Thanks for signing up!

Do we have to look into what others are initiating? Needless to say "we should go to space" for us, though why and how is a matter of opinion difference. But can not we think of an independent work like, a large real spacecraft, not only putting thing into and pulling things from orbit, but capable of say, carrying human beyond solar system.
Many of you are probably thinking, it is too large, many are thinking it's useless to do such a thing in non-govt people like us, many of you are even engaged in something more interesting. But can we not still come up with a target to achieve. Lets see how far we can go!
For my part, we can take a project, say, communicating with an alien civilization, AND SENDING A HUMAN AMBASSADOR THERE ON BEHALF OF PLANET EARTH.
Please think about it, and don't be a Negative Nancy, please think what you should do to achieve it.

Hi all, why are we so strangely silent??
Please come up!!!

there is a new startrek like computer that types your words , translates into the selected language in type, then says the words in the language
i cannot remember what its called, but mabe we can either get one
or mabe the program, this would be very useful
first welcome belovelife --- then yes we can do it. But I would love to know how do you plan to use it. For physically challenged people? or for easy checking of document --- thats why I use the MS speech engine. Or what, so that we can arrange up ideas.

well for countries like japan where english is not the formal language,
you could use this to translate for a cab driver, food, or just talking to locals
plus if it had a space language pack, than communications with someone with broken
english would be easier for both parts,
mabe it could also be coordianated with unbunto, the linix system that is trying to be a universal translator
Probably you are referring to UBUNTU LINUX. and well, I guess there will be people from Japan who knows english in our team, so no problem he/she will translate .. hehehe (just kidding) As I use Mozilla Firefox, there is an Add-On called Fox-Lingo This can translate many languages into each other. Russian-Japanese and vice versa, Spanish-Celtic and vice-versa etc.
I still have hopes for the space elevator, even though the CNT = carbon nano tubes may not be strong enough to build a space elevator for less than $100 billion. www.liftport.com A bolo = rotating tether is likely within reach near term. Neil
Hello Everybody
My idea is to develope a fleet of 4 to 10 satellites that will have the ability to feul and tow communication satellites.
GIFTS will be operated by the ITU, refuel themselves in the ISS (or a similiar facility) and will act as traffic police for the GEOSTATIONARY Belt.
The ITU can force satellite developers to design their satellites with suitable interfaces for GIFTS, hence assuring that every satellite can be accessed, refueled and towed.
Prolonging communication satellites mission life has a real economic added value for satellite operators and will reduce the amount of space junk upthere.

First welcome mayday. Seems this is your first post.

great idea.... surely .... but i wander if you have the facility to refuel GIFTS in ISS, why not refuel the communication satellites directly? doesn't that reduce redundancy? Please comment.

I wonder, during the refuel process, the GIFT+RECEIVER will compose a closed system with mass increased than expected. (MASS of the original comm. sat. was planned for the orbit, but now there is MASS of original satellite + the proposed GIFTS). Won't this make keeping the orbit difficult?
In geostationary orbit, it can be deduced, that the mass does not matter. But I think this deduction can work only when we take earth to be a complete sphere. Due to the geoid shape of earth, i think keeping the orbit will be much difficult during the refueling process.
Comments Please.
You have a good idea there. It would work if you used the vehicle, that is doing the refeuling, for maintaining the orbit. The target (vehicle that needs refueling) vehicle's orbit could be loaded into the GIFTs' mission softwar.
I have been working on a similar project. I don't have a design for the vehicle yet, I have been working on the technical aspects.
I have the technical aspects for five different types of space bound/based vehicles. Still have a ways to go before the technical requirements are finished. I have almost 2000 pages of specs between the five vihicles. The pages I have so far are similar to a technical manual.
I don't have the designs or even sketches done yet, as I am not very artistic.
The vehicles I am working on are:
1: A reusable surface to orbit vehicle to bring supplies, equipment, passengers from Earth to a orbiting station.
2: An orbiting station - space port.
3: An unmanned research vehicle - based at the space port, reconfigurable, reusable, based st the space port. The space port crew refuel, repair, load cargo, etc.
4: An unmanned recovery vehicle - based at the space port, to do refueling, recovery, repair of other vehicles (satellites, etc.).
5: A passenger shuttle - based at the space port, capable of extended stays away from the space port.
I have been working on the technical aspects of these vehicles since March of 2005.
I am to the part where I need to develop the designs, with basic blue prints, so I can configure the layout and placement of the equipment.
The software for such an endeavor needs to be developed, due to the critical aspect, it would need to tested numerous times with simulators to work out the bugs. The goal would be 99.9 % error free. I doubt the software would ever be 100% error free.
