Asia-PacificProf. Jayant Narlikar, a leading Indian astrophysicist, visits Sri Lanka this week on behalf of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to promote the study of Astronomy. At 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, 4th December he talks on "Why Study Astronomy" at the University of Moratuwa, Department of Electronic & Telecomunication Engineering Seminar Hall 1 (ENTC-1).
He will give two public lectures in Colombo and Kandy on "Facts and Speculations in Cosmology".

Asia-PacificThe Royal College Astronomical Society (RCAS) in Colombo, Sri Lanka organised an innovative programme titled '40 Years of Space Age & Beyond' (FYOSA 09) under the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) 2009 programmes. The programme held on 8th and 9th December 2009 consisted of a Workshop, Science Fiction Competition and an Exhibition of Apollo 11 moon rocks.
